On October 26th, 2022, GTS, in collaboration with the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs (MDTCA) Kelantan, successfully organized a comprehensive multi-enforcement agency product training session. Held at the Grand Riverview Hotel, the event saw the participation of 55 officers from various enforcement agencies, including MDTCA Kota Bharu, MDTCA Pasir Mas, the Royal Malaysian Police Marine Unit, the Royal Malaysian Police General Operations Force (GOF), the Royal Malaysian Army Border Scouts, and the Royal Malaysia Customs.
Eight trademark owners contributed to the training, providing valuable insights and expertise. The session was graced by the head of the Intellectual Property Department of MDTCA Kelantan, Haji Azman Bin Ismail, who delivered an opening speech alongside Chief Enforcement Officer Aswadi Bin Jaafar.
For the first time, members of the Royal Malaysian Army Border Scouts and the Royal Malaysian Police General Operations Force and Marine Unit attended a product identification training focused on luxury, sporting, fragrance, and lifestyle fashion products. While these agencies are not primarily responsible for intellectual property enforcement in Malaysia, they play a crucial role in frontline border smuggling interceptions, often conducting ex-officio operations to seize counterfeit goods.
This training marks the third event organized by GTS for Malaysian law enforcement agencies in 2022. GTS’s ongoing commitment to brand protection and anti-counterfeiting efforts continues to make a significant impact, and we look forward to organizing more events in 2023.
